If they are anxious, tense, panicky or drowsy you should:
- Sit them in a quiet and calm room.
- Keep them away from crowds, bright lights and loud noises.
- Tell them to take slow deep breaths.
- Stay with them.
- Keep them awake
- Don’t scare them, shout at them or shock them,
- Don’t give them coffee to wake them up
- Immediately phone for an ambulance,
- Place them into the recovery position,
- Stay with them until the ambulance arrives,
- If you know what drug they’ve taken tell the ambulance crew, this can help make sure that your friend gets the right treatment.

With the proper help and support, many drug users are able to overcome their drug use. Some may have less trouble stopping than others and some drug users have to hit rock bottom before they can see the harm and damage they are doing to themselves and others. Be patient and let them know that you are they to help in any positive way you can!

- Have they failed to stop using, even after trying to stop?
- Will they do things they normally wouldn't do (such as stealing) to get the drug?
